I swear, this boy is the best hugger EVER. I don't know if I just don't remember Mady hugging like he does or if she really didn't hug as much. In my mind I seem to remember more of a snuggle. Like an arms tucked in, head on my chest, making mommy do all the work kind of thing. So when Logan gives his famous hugs, it just makes me turn to mush. He's all sweet smelling with super soft chubby arms. It definitely has to be the best feeling in the world. When he combines it with an "Awwww," mommy's wrapped completely around his finger.
I've noticed something though. Even though physically, Logan is already bigger than Mady was at a year, he seems smaller to me than Mady did at this age. I felt like she was such a toddler, such a big kid, no longer a baby. Now I look at Logan and I feel how tiny he is, how far he has to go to be the little person that I know is coming. It's so much easier to appreciate his baby-ness when I have a toddler standing next to him to show me just how precious that baby-ness is.
One more small thing... Logan took his first steps unassisted tonight. I didn't think we'd be seeing any of those for a while yet. He walks well holding on to our hands and has started walking more with just one hand, but every time we'd tried to get him to take a few steps on his own before he would just sit down or fall over. Tonight he took about 4 or 5 steps before he'd lose his balance and fall. We were only able to have him do it a few times before he decided he was done and ready to stay sitting, but it's definitely the beginning of him walking!

Just a Monday
Sigh. My baby boy is 10 months old today. As rough and long as the first months of his life felt like at the time, it really has flown by. He's such a sweet, mischievious little boy. I'm so gonna be in trouble when he starts walking. He's all about banging on everything, figuring out how things work, and flirting with his mommy.
Oh, the flirting. All I have to do is peek at that boy around a corner, over someone's shoulder, behind my hands and I get a huge, dimpled grin and big, sparkly blue eyes. This is also usually accompanied by a very loud screech.
Oh, the screeching. The biggest loudest screeches are reserved for his sister, but more and more they're coming non-stop. And they're LOUD. It's impossible to feed him without being interrupted by scream, after scream. Have I mentioned that I'm in trouble the older he gets?
I was organizing some things in the office today and I needed to put away some papers from the kids' pediatrician visits. As long as I had Mady's folder out, I looked at her stats from when she was 6, 9 and 12 months old. Yep, Logan was bigger at 9 months than Mady was at 12 months. Not just weight either! He was a quarter of an inch taller than she was at a year. I'm not kidding when I call him my big boy!
I can't post without telling a little Mady conversation from today. That girl cracks me up, so here it is.
Mommy: Mady we have to stop at Grandma and Grandpa's house so I can look at something really quick.
Mady: We going to see Great Grandma?
Mommy: Nope, just Grandpa. He's the only one home.
Mady: I'm Grandpa's favorite granddaughter. (Think she been told that a few times!?)
Mommy: Yep Mady. You are.
Mady: Grandpa wants to take me for a walk.
Mommy: I don't know if you can go for a walk. Grandpa's back is hurting and it's been raining today. It's kind of wet to go for a walk.
Mady: Oh Mommy, it's a bee-yOU-tee-ful day!
If you could hear the way she sing-songs beautiful and was so hopeful that Grandpa was going to play with her and take her for a walk. It was precious!

Dogded a bullet... sort of
So yesterday I ran to Walmart with the kids. I mostly wanted to get out of the house, but there were a few basic items I needed that I could get there also. As we were walking down one of the aisles, we got stopped behind a lady that was consulting her shopping list. Mady walked right up behind her, like within 6 inches of her, and shouted "Mommy! I see her butt!" In disbelief I asked her what she said, so she ran back to me and shouted again "I see her butt!" By now the poor woman turned around to see who was yelling about her butt and I was hurriedly shushing my impulsive daughter.
So how did I dodge a bullet? Mady may have shouted about this poor woman's butt. (And think about it, really what is eye level for a toddler?) But at least she didn't say "big" butt. The woman was very good natured about it and just laughed saying her son had done worse when he was two. Phew!
Today Luke and I had one of those experiences where you can't believe the words that are coming out of your mouth. We had to bring the tv/dvd player from our room in to Best Buy because the dvd player wasn't working. While we were waiting, Mady was playing with the posts with the retractable ribbon that made the divider for the line. She was swinging on them and actually made one of them fall. We were in the midst of telling her to "stop playing with the poles" when we realized how strange and funny that statement was. I never thought I'd be trying to keep my 2.5 year old off the pole. ;)

Nice Try Little Girl
So Mady is potty trained... mostly. She woke up one morning at the beginning of January, spotted some Daisy Duck panties and told me she wanted to wear them that day. I reminded her that would mean going potty on the toilet and being a big girl and she continued to want to wear the panties. She's been trained ever since. It hasn't been without it's accidents, but since that first week, I think there's only been one or two.
That, however, is not the same when it comes to poop. For some reason, it just does not bother her in the least to poop in her panties. Like, even when we realize she's done so, she balks at us taking her to the bathroom to clean her up. We try to keep an eye on her (obviously) and to see when she's making her "poop face," but she's a very quiet pooper. We had one week where she told us that she needed to go, and then she went back to her old ways.
Well, this week she's had a new tactic. Sunday, she walked up to her cousin and said, "Hey S, do you want to go poopy?" Thanks for the dead give away child. She had already gone.
Today, she was watching a little bit of TV and I was working on the computer on school work. All of a sudden she turned to me and said, "No mommy! No! I don't want to go poopy!" My first thought was "Who said anything about poopy?" But it didn't take long to realize that she thought she needed to go. Gotta love a toddlers efforts to avoid doing what they don't want to do.
My other favorite toddlerism from today involved Mady trying to climb over a baby gate. She paused halfway over to shout "Ni hao, cowboy!" which is her version of yee haw. She then proceeded to tell me that she was stuck.
What a day with Logan too. He has a cold (as does Mady) and has been miserable. This is combined with his insistence that he has to learn to walk. Right. Now. He wants someone to be holding his hands and giving him a tour of the house all the time. He has Grandma pegged as the softy when it comes to this and the moment she walks into the house, he starts fussing for her to come get him and walk. He did not want to sit and play at all today. He threw a horrible temper tantrum because of it. I've never seen a baby his age throw such massive tantrums. We'll definitely be working on that!
Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.

It feels so good...
Today friends of ours (J and D) came over to watch LOST. We've started what we hope is a weekly tradition. As we were feeding kids and getting ready for the show to start, J commented that Logan looks like me. When she said it, all I could think was "Finally!"
Sounds like a strange thought, no?
I've been a mom for just over 2.5 years and for most of that 2.5 years I've been told that my kids look like my husband. And they (mostly Mady) do. But I've said since he was born that Logan looks much more like me. There are certain people that are determined to say that he looks like Luke (though my baby pictures disprove this). But FINALLY! someone said that he looks like me! It makes me so excited!
Anyway...
Logan is getting into more and more trouble. He's getting much fast at his goofy crawl and will be out of the room and gone before you know it. He's also much more of a trouble maker than Mady ever was at this age. Maybe he's just more curious, I don't know. But I know I have to watch him much more closely than I did Mady. Blink and he's at the power outlet. Blink and he's pulled himself up on the fireplace hearth. Blink and he's eating a Kleenex... or a power cord. He's just such a BOY! He's always banging on things. He's constantly yelling and growling.
But he's also such a sweet boy.
Tonight he kept crawling over to where I sat on the floor and pulling himself up on me. He just wanted to wrap his chubby baby arms around my neck and put his head on my shoulder and say "awww." He must have stood next to me playing with my hair and hugging me for almost 20 minutes. Mama's boy. I sure hope he stays this cuddly for a long, long time.

Happy Valentine's Day!
We had a very low key day today, but it was nice for the most part. Both kids have mild runny noses so we couldn't put them in the nursery at church. Thankfully because Grandma and Grandpa only live a mile away and there are 2 morning services, we just switch off so all the adults can get to church. Grandma and Grandpa go to the 8:30 service and Mommy and Daddy go to the 10:30 service as soon as G & G get to the house. We're always late, but at least we make it, right?
Well, Luke and I get back from church to find that Mady is saying that her arm hurts and has been complaining about it for an hour. She and Grandpa were playing and she would slap her hand on the couch and he would grab her for a second so she couldn't get her hand away. She went to pull her hand away and immediately complained of pain. She was holding her arm still and refused to do anything with it. We tried a few different things- putting an ice pack on it, putting it in a sling of sorts, trying to force her to use it- but she would constantly pull her arm back, cry and say that it hurt. We couldn't figure out how much was the drama queen in her and how much was actual pain. For hours we debated going to urgent care. We decided to make one last effort to get her mind off it. We convinced her to go to the park with Mommy and Daddy. Lucky for us S and Granny were also coming over. A little play time, especially with S, finally got her mind off of things.
Funny things from today...
A conversation with Mady this morning:
Mommy: Mady, did you watch Tinkerbell after Snow White last night? (While Grandma and Grandpa babysat)
Mady: Yep. And I watched Robot movie (aka Wall-E)
Mommy: Wow! You must have Grandma and Grandpa wrapped around your little finger!
Mady: Yep! I"m so lucky! Lucky, lucky, lucky!
Note: She did not actually watch Wall-E. She saw something at the end of one of the movies that reminded her of it so she thought she watched it.
Logan: He tried walking behind a push toy the other day for the first time. Tonight he was really starting to take off with it. I got out the video camera to try to catch it and as Logan was making his pass, he got all excited because he saw Daddy. He shouted "Da da da da!" and fell right over. This doesn't sound like it would be all that abnormal or funny, but the look on his face in the video is priceless. If I can figure out how to upload it, I'll prove it! It just might have to wait until tomorrow.
By the way, Mady is quite the bully. We're really hoping this does not continue. She totally knows how to push S's buttons and will find the one thing that will irritate him at the moment and do it more and some how make it that much more annoying to really make him upset. Bulliness!

Bedtime Woes
Ugh! Bedtime has been the most frustrating thing is this house for the last few weeks. We finally got Logan falling asleep on his own after rocking him to sleep since he was a newborn. I loved rocking him, but by the end of the night all the rocking and swaying was taking a toll on my knee and back. Let's face it, he's not a 9 pound newborn any more...
But now Mady will NOT stay in bed. For anything. We've tried to get her to stop taking naps, but we turn around and she's asleep. I don't put her down in her room but she falls asleep on the couch every. single. afternoon. I try not to let her sleep long, but days like today, she is impossible to wake up. If we can keep her to a 15 minute (30 tops) nap, then she will usually go to sleep. But when it goes longer we end up with nights like tonight. We find ourselves with a toddler who is still awake at 11:00pm. *I* want to go to bed. I do not want to be making my tenth trip up the stairs.
We've tried several different things. We've tried reading a few more books. We've tried baths. We've stood outside her room so that every time she tries to come out we put her back. We put a gate up in her doorway. This last one was working. Until tonight. Tonight Mady figured out how to jump the dumb thing. She got pretty fast at it too. I barely made it downstairs the last time and I thought I heard some footsteps. So I tromped back up the stairs and she came up behind me as I went past my room. Which, I might add, will scare a mama half to death. This mama does not like to have ANYONE walk up behind me when I'm not expecting it.
I know the next thing we need to try is the Supernanny sit in her room and not make eye contact thing, each night moving farther and farther away. But I'm tired. I feel selfish saying that, but I have not been ready to put the time into that method. Mostly because if it doesn't work, where will that have gotten me? I'll have spent hours every night sitting in my daughter's room with her still getting out of bed. That will suck! I know we're at that point. I just need strength!!!!
On a more positive note, Logan started pulling himself up last night. Today he also started trying to walk with a push toy and was trying to do more cruising on his own. Mady walked at 10.5 months... how close will Logan be to that? He crawled more than a full month after her. Can he close the gap for walking?
